President Donald Trump is calling on Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker to accept federal assistance to combat violent crime in Chicago, warning that the city needs help as violence continues to take a deadly toll.
The president’s call comes after 41 people were shot over the weekend, including three fatalities. Trump argued that federal authorities could help reduce violence in Chicago, pointing to the federal response in Washington, D.C.
Meanwhile, Chicago police are searching for the suspect or suspects responsible for the shooting at Washington Park, which authorities say was the city’s worst mass shooting of the year. A combined $20,000 in rewards is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
