American farmers are facing rising costs as diesel prices surge past $6 per gallon nationwide.
AAA reported the national average for diesel reached a record $6.16 per gallon on September 12, up sharply from about $3.70 a year earlier.
The higher fuel costs are adding pressure to farmers who rely on diesel-powered tractors, trucks and harvesting equipment. Farmers say the expense affects everything from harvesting crops to transporting grain and silage.
Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins says the Trump administration is working to provide relief to farmers, while pointing to trade deals and efforts to strengthen the agriculture economy.
