Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez says there are currently no negotiations underway with the United States and no plans for future talks, although Havana says it remains willing to maintain contact with U.S. officials.
The comments come as Cuba faces a worsening economic and energy crisis, with nationwide power outages reportedly lasting for days.
Cuban officials estimate that the U.S. embargo caused $8.083 billion in economic damages between March 2025 and February 2026, a 7% increase from the previous year. Reuters reports that the U.S. State Department had not immediately responded to Rodríguez’s comments.
The Trump administration has continued its economic pressure campaign against Cuba, while Cuban officials have blamed U.S. measures for worsening conditions on the island.
