CENTCOM Details U.S. Mission to Block Iran and Secure Strait of Hormuz

U.S. Central Command is highlighting the efforts of American service members carrying out operations to restrict Iran’s access to its ports while keeping commercial traffic moving through the Strait of Hormuz.

CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper praised the roughly 50,000 U.S. troops supporting the mission and announced that American forces have cleared Iranian sea mines from internationally recognized shipping lanes.

U.S. forces have also escorted nearly 1,500 ships to safety, with approximately 750 million barrels of oil safely transferred, according to Cooper. The operation has turned away 75 vessels attempting to run the blockade, while three ships were disabled after refusing repeated directives.
