Hattie Kauffman-1st Native American Nat'l Network News Correspondent on Mimi Geerges Show

The first Native American journalist to file a national broadcast, Hattie Kauffman, “Falling into Place: A Memoir of Overcoming” won four Emmy awards during her more than two decades as a national correspondent. Her memoir describes the day her world came crashing down and how she had to face the ghosts of childhood she thought she’d left behind.

“In an alcoholic home, things just don’t make sense … bills don’t get paid, and so, for instance, the utilities would get shut off, nobody would go shopping, we would go to school when we thought it was time to go to school.”
