Happening Now: Trump Gives Remarks After Supreme Court Strikes Down Tariffs

President Trump will speak with reporters Friday after the Supreme Court struck down nearly all of the administration’s sweeping tariffs on foreign trading partners.

The high court rejected Trump’s expanded use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose the steep import taxes. The 1970s-era law allows the president to “regulate” imports when necessary to respond to national emergencies that pose an “unusual and extraordinary” threat.

During a breakfast with governors earlier Friday, Trump called the decision — which received mixed reactions from lawmakers — a “disgrace.”

Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas and Brett Kavanaugh dissented. Conservatives Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett sided with the majority.

The press conference is scheduled to begin at 12:45 p.m. EST.
