A History Camp Online session with Dan Gifford took place on Thursday, August 27.

Dan is a historian and author of “The Last Voyage of the Whaling Bark Progress: New Bedford, Chicago, and the Twilight of an Industry.”

Discussion topic: The journey of the Progress, an authentic whaler transformed into a whaling museum for Chicago’s 1893 world’s fair, symbolized the dying whaling industry in the Gilded Age.

Next week, at 8 pm on Thursday, September 3, we’ll have Will Nipper, author of “In Yankee Doodle’s Pocket: The Myth, Magic and Politics of Money in Early America” on money in Colonial America.
